Business brokers Hilton Smythe have sold three Kent-based shops for established gaming vendors XPRESS Games.
Owner Chris Muckell approached Hilton Smythe to sell his three shops, located in Ashford, Canterbury and Folkestone, due to family commitments. All three premises sold for their asking price within a year of going to the market.
The business, which has seen year on year growth since its launch in 2005, specialises in trading cards, board games and hobby ranges, including Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering. It also sells toys and games aimed at anime fans and those interested in geek culture, giving it a loyal customer base.
The trio of shops were sold to three individual owners during the 12-month period they were on the market. The new proprietors will aim to build on the existing reputation of the shops, which hosts regular games nights as well as selling stock.
Gareth Smyth, Group Managing Director of Hilton Smythe, said: “Shops like XPRESS Games that are aimed at fans and collectors are a sound investment. The customers are loyal, and new business can be generated both by advertising and word of mouth.
“The three shops have lots of growth potential through building an online presence and hosting games nights on the premises. The high street is constantly changing, and these outlets stand out as being something a bit different and eye catching.”
Mr Chris Muckell, Seller of XPRESS Games, said: “Hilton Smythe made the process of selling the business easy and painless. I approached them in May last year and by this May, all three properties had sold. XPRESS games is a quirky and well-loved part of the high streets in Ashford, Canterbury and Folkestone. I’m glad to know I’ve handed over the keys to three people who will build them up.”
