5 things to consider when buying a Gift Shop

As it’s the month of looove, we thought it was quite fitting to write a blog post about Gift Shops. Gift Shops are naturally quite busy during February as people are looking for the perfect gift for their better half.

So what should you consider before plunging in and buying a gift shop? We’ve had a look at the top 5 things you should consider when you’re looking to buy a gift shop.

Target Market

Usually when people are looking to buy a business, they already have an idea of how they want to run the business.  Look at what market the current business is targeting, does it fit your idea? If not should you change the business?

Location

Location is a very important for shops. What you need to consider is footfall – the amount of people who will walk past your shop. If the footfall is high there is more chance of a customer stumbling upon your business.

Also location will affect the demographics that will come into your shop. The demographics will affect what kind of stock you should sell, so location needs to be considered when you are choosing what to stock.

Stock

When you decide on the kind of people your shop will target, you need consider what type of stock will appeal to them. Here you also need to consider the budget of the market you are targeting.

Suppliers

When considering buying a gift shop, you’ll have to consider suppliers. If you keep the supplier of the previous owner, you’ll have to make sure they will supply the type of products you want to stock and at the price you can afford to sell them at.

Numbers

Are you good with numbers? Can you decide how low you can go with prices to still make a profit? This is an important skill for shop owns so you don’t miss out on profit.
